Housing association launches safe candles campaign for Candle Safety Week

18 October 2017

One of Scotland’s largest housing associations has launched a new campaign in partnership with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to reduce the number of fires caused by candles in their developments.

Hanover Scotland is launching the campaign to coincide with National Candle Safety Week which this year takes place from 16-22 October.

Hanover Scotland is providing information to all of their sites and making available 5000 sets of electric candles available for free to any resident of one of their developments.

Hanover Scotland is always looking at ways to improve the safety and security of their tenants and, after noticing the increase in the number of small and large fires being caused by lit candles, decided to work in partnership with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to provide information and electric candles as an alternative to regular candles.

Chris Milburn, Director of Customer Services at Hanover Scotland, said: “The safety of our residents and staff is always our top priority at Hanover Scotland and we are always looking at new ways to reduce the risk of harm at our developments.  We are delighted that the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were able to work with us to provide accurate information to be displayed at our sites across Scotland.”

“This information has now been sent out to all developments to coincide with National Candle Safety Week.  In addition, we have purchased 5000 sets of electric candles which are available for free to any resident on request.”
